A fresh, clear personality, with very clear ideas, for a music in which elegance and concreteness are perfectly combined.

Forms of modern life may differ in quite a few respects – but what unites them all is precisely their fragility, temporariness, vulnerability, and inclination to constant change
[Liquid Modernity, Zygmunt Bauman]
Keep an Eye International Jazz Award 2019 winner Liquid Identities is a contemporary jazz band born in Amsterdam in 2019, led by clarinetist and composer Federico Calcagno.
Liquid Identities works in the sign of an entirely current and contemporary sensibility in which the legacy and new sound-structures have their roots in much of what jazz, evolutionarily speaking, has been able to offer us in the last half century.
Compositional solutions and refined sounds inspired by modern jazz, chamber music, Indian Carnatic grooves and mediterranean rhythms characterize the unique aesthetic of this international quintet, meeting point of different cultures and musical heritages.
The music is also inspired by some important and relevant thinkers such as Zygmunt Bauman, Noam Chomsky, Federico Fellini, Mark Fisher, with the aim of considering and unraveling our society’s internal dynamics and functioning, denouncing its uncertainties and existential angst.
The debut album, named after the band, features a repertoire of 8 original tracks composed by Federico Calcagno.
